Advice for the Beginning of the Cancer Journey

June 05, 20251 min read

What advice would I give to myself if I could speak to myself at the start of my cancer journey? What advice do I give you at the start of your cancer journey?

This is a picture of Naomi and me just a week or two after I was diagnosed. We had moved to Oahu for her school, and cancer really just came out of nowhere!

My advice is two-fold:

  1. Trust who you are

  2. You are enough

Trust who you are - trust that the gifts, the talents, the friends, the family, the perspectives, and the abilities that you have will be there for you on your cancer journey. In life's most difficult times, lean in to who you are. You will change and grow. But trust who you are!

Because - you are enough! Cancer is big and overwhelming and scary. But it is not bigger than you. You are enough for this journey ahead. Trust God, trust that even with a cancer journey ahead, you will not lose God but find God in unexpected and bounteous places. You are enough - because.
